Wheaton, Illinois (Revisited)

Early on the morning of July 25 (Monday), Franz and his dad set out for Wisconsin, and their annual trip to the EAA Fly-In. They are both looking forward to the day when Jackson is old enough to join them, but for now, he had to stay back with the girls.

Maddie, our artist in residence, busied herself outside creating a "stick sculpture" in the flower beds for viewing by the guys when they got back home.

When they did arrive home, late that Monday night, Franz and his dad were both bearing gifts for themselves in the form of remote control helicopters. Jackson was so sure, when he awoke the next morning, that it was for him, that no amount of reasoning with him could convince him otherwise. He was obsessed with Franz's copter. He sobbed with desire. You do realize that I am not exaggerating in the least in this regard.

On Tuesday, Franz and I took the train down to Chicago for a 2-night, 3-day getaway. We had some delicious meals and spent most of Wednesday in the Art Institute, which you all know I loved. It was low-key and wonderful to quietly walk around the city at night, looking at lights, and with a cup of coffee in the morning, people-watching.

That weekend, we had one last hurrah as a family, and went to the DuPage County Fair. Franz and Jackson had a blast at the monster truck rally, and the girls and I walked around the rest of the fair, watched a sheep shearing and some Australian sheepdogs herding sheep. We walked through the arts and crafts building and had some frozen lemonade.

And of course, we had to get a nose picture of this cow. That was it, the show was over, and it was time to head for home.
