Circling the Wagons (Through Ohio)

We woke up the next morning, after D.C., knowing that we were done. We were tired - walking all day (sometimes dragging the kids), trying to figure out our overnight plans late that same afternoon, and our day's plans the morning of. Sleeping little and hauling bags in and out of the car. We'd seen some amazing sights and were so grateful for the opportunity, but we...were...done.

So, we decided to head back to the Midwest for a double summer visit and a chance to sit still for a couple of days in a row. We set the GPS to Indiana and called up a friend of Franz's from his Wheaton days who happens to live three hours East of my parents. We hadn't seen them in several years.

After a day of driving from Western Maryland, we arrived in Lima, Ohio for dinner with the Hutchinsons. One of their children was spending the week with her grandparents, but there were still three for our kids to play with, and their cute little black dog, with which Jackson was both intruiged and terrified. It was an unexpected and serendipitous visit. And we left with a recipe for some delicious peanut butter brownie / cookie dessert. Bonus.

We left late and the kids fell asleep in the car. My parents left the door unlocked and the lights on for us and we arrived in the wee hours. The kids transferred well from car to bed, and something, somewhere down inside relaxed...finally. I slept very well.
