The kids in our district had a random day off for teacher education or something on the first Wednesday in February. A friend of mine whose daughter is in Katie's class and whose son is in Madeline's class organized a zoo "field trip" for other Kindergarten families who wanted something to do with their kids that day. We've been having 60-70 degree weather for a few weeks, and it sounded like a lovely plan. However, that happened to be right when the cold front slammed the country. All of you Midwesties may scoff, but we in Phoenix are just not equipped in blood thickness or clothing for cold temperatures. The morning of the zoo trip dawned crisp and cool with 31 degrees registering on my car, feeling like 20 degrees due to the door-slamming 20 mph wind blowing. I picked my friend and her kids up and managed to convince her son that he really would want his winter coat even if it didn't consitute the type of fashion statement he was looking for.

Here is a picture of the four of them at the zoo in the pretty much empty parking lot. Hmm. Wonder why?

The kids had a good time despite winter coats, hats, scarves, and mittens, and it warmed up just enough to shed mittens and hats before we were done.

Way to brave the cold. I'm proud of you for reaching back into your distant past and embracing the winter apparel that is a necessity out here. Love the picture on the camel!
Agreed! I hope this camel picture surfaces many times in the years ahead! Classic.
