The Backyard Project

Franz has always longed to drive a Bobcat. Finally, he had the excuse a couple of weeks ago. Our backyard, which was not finished when we bought our house, has been very intimidating to us. In Arizona, each plant has to have a water line run to it, and a master plan has to be put in place in order to make sure you get all the pieces in the right places in the right order. We landscaped the terraces and added a couple of citrus trees early on, but have been avoiding the actual backyard.
Franz decided to add several trees along the back fence line and just gravel in most of the rest of it, leaving place for an area of turf just outside the back door. He had two loads of 25 tons of rock dropped off on consecutive days, for a total of just over 50 tons, which was barely enough.

Here you can see the trees, with the rock piled between them, before it was raked out. Franz is driving over the area where the turf will go, maybe next week.

Here is Franz making one of the seemingly endless gravel dumps, and you can see the terraces. They are not in bloom right now, due to the season.

This is the view to the right of Franz, as I moved the camera away. You can see that it was quite a project.
Franz's little helper went along for a ride. He happened to think that watching and listening to the Bobcat work from the safety of my arms was much better then sitting inside it. That was a little too much!

I can't believe you have tackled this. I mean, I understand, but holy cow. Yikes! 50 tons? That is a number I can't possibly comprehend. And while this is a huge task, I know very well that Franz loved the Bobcat and driving around with piles of dirt and rocks. I'm sure Kyle is jealous.

Kyle's worried that Franz may have turned Jackson off of motorized vehicles with this traumatic encounter with a bobcat. He really hopes that isn't the case.

We got him a Hot Wheels bobcat, which he loves. So, tell Kyle not to fret too much about it. I think we're still good.
