My Last Day

I've been volunteering in Madeline's first grade classroom every other Tuesday morning since the beginning of the school year. The next time slot for my normal volunteer schedule would have been February 9 - a day of great importance on my calendar. So, today I said goodbye for the rest of the year to Mrs. Tutt's classroom

I've had a wonderful time getting to know the fun, bright kids of first grade who love to learn and work so hard to please.

My last day's activites included:
  • Listening to sight word / phrase recitation and giving awards for effort
  • Sharpening classroom pencils and picking up teacher correspondence in the office workroom
  • Leading a reading group with four of the students including Madeline. We read the first two chapters of a Cam Jansen mystery book aloud in the hall, stopping to discuss it as we went. Then we came up with a group consensus for the main idea of each chapter and they recorded them in their notebooks.

The students have come a long way since August and I will miss watching them progress in the next few months, as well. So long to the kids of classroom 111.

On a separate note: this is not, regrettably, my last day at work.
