Glass Half Empty or Half Full?

The crazy weather last week resulted in a portion of our flat commercial building roof leaking. Suddenly on Saturday, some ceiling tiles, pushed by about 8 gallons of water, came crashing to the floor of our lobby, just shy of a convertible with its top down.

Since another rainstorm is due in the middle of this week, we had to get a quick repair. We found a reputable roofer and he came out same-day today. This is what our Admin reported to me after he left:

"The guy came and looked at the roof and explained to me what he thought may have happened. He said we are getting close to the end of the life of that roof. He re-sealed the places where he thought it was leaking and is 90% sure he fixed the problem. When I asked him what we owed him, he said - Nothing - just keep his card and call when we're ready to replace the roof."

As I replied to her: that is both the best and worst news of the day. We purchased the building brand new in...2007, I think, and moved in in 2008. What a quality roof!

Wow. I mean...wow. How can a roof go bad in 3 years?

Of course, the original roofing company is out of business so there is no recourse...
