Katie's Birthday

I simply cannot believe that Katie has turned five. She sprouted real legs this past year, in place of the those chubby, little, knobby-kneed appendages. She is ready for Kindergarten. She cured her own "L" lisp on the sly, but hasn't quite managed to give up thumb-sucking. She has become very girly - loves all things pink, likes to get clothes for presents, and loves the idea of ro-MANCE (refer here if you missed out on the first installment of this conversation: http://gofr.blogspot.com/2009/10/madelines-song-and-five-pillars-of.html). She is determined to learn to ride a two-wheeled bike this summer, before her big sister does, but sometimes likes to pretend she is shy and small. She still loves to cuddle, and often tells me, "Mommy, we forgot something this morning!" and runs to give me a hug.

On the morning of her birthday (thankfully she had fully recovered from one of many bouts with the stomach flu this spring), we went to get some donuts for breakfast and for her class treat.

Katie's favorite dog breed is currently the pug (with a dalmation running a close second), so she was thrilled with the barking pug that Madeline helped me pick out for her. She also got a nice little car for her Zhu Zhu pets (come on, does that surprise you, in our household, a car?) and everything pink, pink, pink.

So, I decided to make the doggie cupcakes that Katie had been eyeing for awhile in my cupcake book. There were, I think, 11 different breeds in the book, but I just picked the first four. It took quite awhile to make them, and they certainly didn't turn out perfectly, but Katie didn't notice at all. She thought they were wonderful and I guess that's the point!

This dalmation was her favorite.

I kinda liked the Yorkshire Terrier myself, with its pink tongue and shaggy fur.

I'll be the first to admit, that this collie looks like a honey bear. We made Franz eat it.

And Maddie went for the beagle!

All in all, it was a hectic time, but a fun one! And now baby Katie bug is 5!

Those cupcakes are awesome! I only wish I'd been there so you'd have to make another breed for me to eat. They are so great. And Katie does look really old in those pictures. I can't believe she's 5 either. I also can't believe when I turn 28 in Sept, that Maddie will be turning 8. NOOooooo!

I'm scared the 30/10 year, personally.

You're right. That is MUCH scarier.
