Katie's Never Ending Birthday Fun

The weekend after her birthday, Katie had a wet and wild birthday party with her best friend, Taylor at Taylor's house and invited their friends from Pre-K. We rented an inflatable slide and put a hose on it for some serious water fun. We had dozens of animal shaped beach balls bouncing around for the kids to play with and take home afterward. Typically in late May, the temperatures have been well over 100 degrees for a long time. We had chilled snacks to keep them cool, in anticipation of the heat. However, this year has been a little different. We didn't hit 100 degrees at all until just a couple of days ago, instead of in April. And on that party day, in particular, the sun went behind some clouds exactly as the party was starting, and just didn't want to come out! Go figure! In Arizona! The kids were several shades of blue and purple, but looked like they were having the time of their lives!

Although the party started at 2:00, the slide rental came early that morning, so our family joined Taylor's family for prep work and water slide fun around 10:30 that morning. Jackson was a trooper; he even hung out in the shade in his shades for awhile, enjoying the breeze. He fell asleep right before the party officially kicked off, and didn't wake up until it was over.

While the kids played around outside, I got to work on the cupcakes. (It was a very cupcake-filled week!) Everything was sea creature theme, so I piped on some crabs, octopus, starfish, and fish, and topped others with dolphin candles. I threw on some sugar crystals and white candy balls for bubbles, and they were ready to go. I was glad to have Taylor's mom and grandma helping. They did all the blue "water" super fast.

Katie picked the dolphin candle for her first cupcake!

The day before the party, the girls' former nanny, the wonderful Ms. Tara, arrived to take Katie on a birthday outing. She spoiled her completely with a trip to the Disney store and getting her nails painted - purple.

What a fun-packed week we had, interspersed with birthday wishes by phone and mail. Katie was as pleased as she could be.
