Madeline's Song and the Five Pillars of Romance

While I was posting, I had to fill you in on a couple of the laugh-out-loud happenings that I have overheard lately while functioning as the girls' chauffer.

Madeline loves to sing and frequently makes up her own songs on the spot, complete with verses and a chorus that is repeated between each one. On the way to school earlier this month, I overheard a song that made me wish I had a way to record it, but I was driving and was only able to mentally record the chorus. Here goes:

I thought you were different in so many ways
But then I found out you're exactly the same
The same as the guy I met yesterday
Same as the guy I met yesterday

Since when does she have any clue about that subject matter? What on earth!?!

Not too long afterward, I was privy to a conversation regarding the Five Pillars of Romance, which when pronounced by Madeline is said, "ro-MANCE." From out of nowhere, she began instructing a very engrossed Katie on the Five Pillars. Curious, I listened carefully while pretending I wasn't there (hard to do when driving). Apparently they are:

1. Picture of ro-MANCE
2. Movies of ro-MANCE
3. Hugging
4. Kissing
5. Marriage

After repeating them several times, she quizzed Katie to determine if the lesson had stuck. Katie was able to repeat them all back on the first try, and in order, impressing her dedicated teacher.

Madeline followed up, asking Katie to please provide an example of each to prove her thorough understanding of the subject matter. She illustrated #1 with my wedding picture and #2 with "all the princess movies, since they have princes in them." Madeline concurred enthusiastically. Thankfully, Katie did not need to illustrate the final three pillars in order to appease her teacher in this impromptu lesson.

Satisfied with their newfound knowledge, they sat back to enjoy the rest of the ride to school.

I love this. I can't even begin to explain how much I love this. So wise, dear Maddie. So wise.
