O'Mama Healthcare

So, I must not be doing such a hot job of health care these days. Starting with when Lana and Kyle were visiting (see the post about the 3 P's of Exception http://gofr.blogspot.com/2010/04/too-many-ps.html), we have been hit with one sickness after another.

First Katie came down with the stomach flu on the Friday before Easter, depriving her of a weekend of fun activities. The Monday after Easter, Madeline got the stomach flu and stayed home from school. Last Thursday, Katie complained of not feeling very well, and by Friday was running a fever. She has persisted, off and on this weekend, to have a sore throat, no appetite, a bad cough, and a low-grade fever. Will she be well enough for school tomorrow? I have no idea.

Madeline, I know for sure, will not be attending tomorrow. She came down with a case of pink eye today - in both eyes. I don't know whether to chalk it up to the fun festival's bouncy houses on Friday night (Eww! They bring out the germaphobe in me.) or to church on Saturday night. At any rate, we braved Jackson's napless day today to hit a clinic in a pharmacy for some prescription eyedrops. In case none of you have ever forced eyedrops into both eyes of a seven-year old (who is convinced you have morphed into Satan himself while wielding the drops), I just want you to know that it is a darn good time. In fact, I can't wait to repeat the two drops per eye for the required six times per day for seven days.

Let's keep in mind that Franz has been out of town since last Thursday (he is due in late tonight), and so the kids have somehow or other managed to worm their way into my bed every night of his absence, sharing a room with me and Jackson (in his Pack-n-Play). Somehow I am currently symptom-free, but am feeling more hypochondric tendencies daily. Dear God, please don't let me get stomach flu, cold, pink eye, or whatever comes up next! I can't imagine holding down the fort with one of those right now!
