Well, Franz and I had just decided to attempt another visit to Stingray City in the Cayman Islands over our cruise this winter. Our first attempt, on our honeymoon cruise, was cancelled due to bad weather. It was a huge disappointment. The popular attraction entails a boat ride out to a sandbar where you can feed these stingrays in the ocean - their natural habitat.
Not two days later, the big story on the death of Steve Irwin hit the news. You know, the one where a stingray swimming nearby him at the Great Barrier Reef (one he was not attempting to touch or bother) shot out its poisonously barbed tail and pierced his heart, and Steve managed to pull the barb out but then proceeded to bleed to death. That story. Now, apparently, some people are trying to convince the world that stingrays are not dangerous.

I still don't think they're going to convince me. Maybe I'll settle for a nice tour of the island.

Yeah, I'd be over that in a second -the desire to ever swim with stingrays, that is.
Shocking as Steve Irwin's death was (even to those with him), I don't think anyone can sufficiently convince the world that they are now completely "harmless" creatures.
If anyone knew animals - sea animals - was it not Steve Irwin? He wasn't ignorant - though he may have been dumb. Does that make sense?
Complete sense. The goofy thing out of all of this is that he routinely grabbed, poked and prodded predators large and small. But, he was killed when minding his own business and leaving that one alone. (Although swimming in close proximity might not have been a brilliant idea!)
