The birthday girls

Lana and Madeline are exactly 20 years (and 4 days) apart. So, every year, just about, we get them together for an early birthday party. The candles work for both of them - Maddie just ignores the "2."

Two candles for two people to blow out is kind of cheating, if you ask me. They might have to do some extra hard work for their wishes to come true. By the way, that is caramel frosting for those of you who are drooling. It is fab. You must try it, even if just with some graham crackers.

Always an ecstatic participant in her own parties, Madeline was thrilled to receive a bilingual edition of "Los Tres Pequeños Jabalíes" (The Three Little Pigs - but this one is about javelinas).

This vase reminded me of the dishes I got Lana last year for her birthday this year, so I got it as a reminder of that. I really gave it to her when she arrived at my house, but then wrapped it up later and made her open it. It's a great look of surprise she has here, isn't it? Tricky girl! You just never know with her!

Nothing like a relaxing stretch-out on the clean laundry to getcha goin'. Franz takes in the party atmosphere and switches to that dangerous "vacation mode."
