Last Friday, December 28, Mom and Dad, and Janet and Steve joined our whole family for a soup lunch. Unfortunately, Katie napped most of the afternoon. That was unfortunate for those wanting to spend time with her, but fortunate for those who would be living with her for the next few days.
Madeline, was awake and awed, as were the rest of us, by the unusual sight of an opossum in the crabapple tree just outside the windows, feasting on crabapples midday! He acrobatically moved from branch to branch, hanging on with his tail to prevent falling. We held our breath as he attempted to reach berries on tiny flexible branches and slipped more than once. Emily Jane thought his pink nose was "so cute"! He entertained us for some time as we watched from inside the house.
As snow fell New Year's Eve, the opposum hung out under a bush beneath the bird feeder for hours enjoying another feast! We also noticed most of the crabapples are no longer on the tree. He must have visited there again, too!
Another highlight of the afternoon was Mom and Dad modeling their beautiful and unique Christmas gifts from their Mongolian friend. Dad sported his new hand-made jacket complete with perfect geometrical black trim and frog fasteners. Mom wrapped in her soft camel hair shawl. We were all amazed at the beauty and fine workmanship of these special gifts.

New Year's Day we awoke to fresh snow clinging to all the branches, fences, and wires, creating a winter wonderland. Too bad Katie and Madeline had already headed home. No snow play in Indiana for them this year!
We had a unique and wonderful holiday season from beginning to end enjoying family, friends, and beauty of all kinds!
How blessed we are with natural wonders and human creations! Both from the Creator of all!
