Hot Small Town Rewards

Yesterday was the annual Rochester Chili Cook-off and Red Hot Car Show. Evan encouraged our participation in the United Way sponsored 5K Chili Walk-Run, since he serves on the United Way board. It was just the second year for this fund-raiser event, so Steve and I agreed to walk in it. Evan and Emily decided to run.

It was a cool morning, no sunshine, when about 80 runners and walkers took off. Steve and I walked briskly, but not too much faster than our normal exercise pace. Many 3rd through 5th graders ran and were way ahead of us the entire time. We enjoyed the walk and finished at right around 45 minutes - a satisfactory pace.

To my surprise, I won third place overall for female walkers! My name was called first to receive my reward!

Look at this crazy trophy for the third place female walker earned in a small field of walkers! I have never had such a trophy in my life! I'm quite certain you are all jealous!

You would have thought from the size of the trophy, that I had won third place in a marathon. (That will NEVER happen!)

Notice the pot of chili on the trophy!

Emily and Evan each won a medal for their age group and gender.
Emily is sporting the 2007 chili cook-off T-shirt. We each got one for participating in the event.

Following the awards ceremony, we tasted chili at four or five of the fourteen booths serving local groups' best chili recipes...everyone from dentists, to long-term care facility staffs, to political party members, and more, had decorated theme booths. We had a great time! The homemade apple dumplings sold by the Christian Church were a hit with many! You might want to consider marking your calendar for next year...Rochester Chili Cook-Off and Red Hot Car Show the third Saturday of October! Come join us! You might even win an award!

While I missed the chili part, and the running/exercising part, I DID make it to the Car Show and let me tell you - it was incredible. 100 times better than the Round Barn car show. More Vettes than you could even imagine - and I discovered something new about myself. Although I adore the 67-71 Vette Stingrays, I actually like the '59 Vette better. Huge whitewalls on the wheels and this indented contrast color section near the front of the doors. Amazing! I'm in love. with the car. There were a couple different colors of the 59 for me to gawk at, too. Brilliant time! I'll be back next year.

Bring your walking shoes, Lana, so you can try for the biggest trophy you've ever won!

I should have checked out the car show. Maybe next year!
