Are You Kidding Me?

As my crew hiked back to the parking lot on Mystic Falls Trail this week after a ten hour work day, we thought our eyes were playing tricks on us. We hadn't seen the sun in days, but there was a yellow glow piercing the dismal cloudy atmosphere. We neared our destination and were better able to identify the source of the light.

Is it a tank? An RV? An amphibious vehicle? We're not sure what it is. All we know is that it is enormous, yellow, and it is a Mercedes. We also observed that it had a French license plate and a family with two small children were the owners/operators. Weird stuff! Please note that our rig is parked directly behind the Yellow machine. Our rig looks like a tiny toy, but in reality it is a 3/4 ton Suburban.

Believe it or not, I remember reading about something like that yellow thing in Car and Driver or Raod and track a few months ago. If it is the same vehicle, it is actually a very large, very expensive, very capable off-road RV that people buy for the most extreme off-roading that still requires a place to sleep. The pics I saw of the one the magazine tested were amazing inside with a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and many nice features like stainless steel and even a hardwood floor in one area. I didn't even know that they were legal to operate in the states! Very cool!

I think that they are actually built on the chassis of a large heavy-duty garbage truck (the kind that have the forks on the front that pick up huge dumpsters in a single lift and swing them over their roofs to dump behind them).

I knew you'd get a kick out of seeing this machine.
