Calli in Rochester

It was a reunion of sorts when Calli Edwards visited the Gottschalks in Rochester, her first trip to Indiana. We're not sure what she thought of small town USA in Hoosierland, but she says she has a better understanding of Leslie having seen where she grew up and with whom!

Calli's first stop was Lana's apartment in Upland where she spent the night and saw Lana's office (which we haven't even seen yet!)
Among other things, Calli experienced a tour of town (the "dollar" tour), taco lunch with Grandpa and Grandma Gottschalk at Dick's Drive-In (one of Leslie's must-do suggestions), the annual Round Barn Festival in downtown Rochester, and the one-and-only Newlywed Game featuring Newlyweds Evan and Emily G. and "Near Newlyweds" Steve and Carol G., among other local couples. She fished with Evan on beautiful Lake Manitou and fished with Evan and Mama G. at the farm lake. Enough fish were caught to have a fish fry. The bluegill and bass were served with Tracy's special Tarter Sauce made by Calli! Thanks, Calli!
Evan and Emily J. joined us for dinner about every evening and Lana came a couple of times all the way from Upland. It wouldn't have been the total Rochester experience without a game night at Evan and Emily's. Before she left Calli tasted (no, she ate the whole thing!) the famous Flagpole Upside-Down Banana Split!
Having just returned from a mission trip to Kenya, Calli shared pictures and stories about that life-changing experience! Wow!
It was great to have her here. We only wish Tommy and Tracy could have come with her! Another time, perhaps!
Here are some pictures from Calli's visit:

Baking chocolate chip cookies.
Calli is wearing the apron Evan made in 4-H when he was about 10 or 11.

I know people talk on their cell phones and drive all the time, but talk and fish??? Calli's amazing!

Calli even brought 3 cases of Cherry Lemon Sun Drop all the way from NC at Tracy's request! Thanks, Tracy for the NC "nectar"!

Since the dredging at Lake Manitou fish can be caught off the Gottschalk dock! A little Cherry Lemon Sun Drop makes the heat more bearable. Calli took a very brief canoe ride with Evan. The wind was too strong to enjoy much canoeing. Calli, Indiana has wind, too. Now you know that it isn't ALL at the beach!

It all started with stir fry in the wok, a lid unused, and a watermelon waiting to be cut. Before long we had a Geisha girl posing with a Chinamelon!

Five Crowns and Up and Down the River were enjoyed with cookies and coffee at Evan's and Emily's!

We are blessed that our family has grown to include the Edwards from NC! "Gottswards" forever!

Amen and Amen to the "Gottschwards Forever" comment. It was awesome to have Calli up here and I, for one, am very much looking forward to spending time with Tommy and Tracy in a few short weeks!

Great pictures, Mom. Thanks for taking the time to update the blog. I know you are swamped with stuff to do. You rock!

Thanks for posting all the fun times in Rochester. I'm bummed we'll be in Rochester and Montana this summer, but missed Calli!
