I've had an eventful couple of months, preparing for the "big adventure". The last two months I've enjoyed spending time in the mountains of South and North Carolina with Beka. We've found many a "gem" hidden away in those beautiful hills. Thought you might enjoy a few pictures from my 2006 adventures so far.

Who Says You Can't Ski Without Snow?

What is this?
If you think you know what this is a picture of...please submit a comment. I'll buy you an ice cream sundae if you can figure it out!

Oh! I know! I know! Can I guess and get an ice cream sundae? IT'S A GIRL!!!!!!!
Sorry, Beka your guess doesn't count. I'll just buy you an ice cream sundae anyway for being such a great hostess -- with awesome relatives who cook meals that are to die for! I can't wait for the "last supper".
It looks like a cave with an upper opening covered by tree limbs....did I win the sundae?
Les, the pictures look great.
You should take Beka with you and Megan...
Is it a girl (you, perhaps) standing on a raw beef hamburger patty, staring up at a sky hid from your view by dark, unwieldy tree branches, except for a small patch of light, where Glorrrrry is shining through?
(Les, if I don't win with that, I quit! This guess ROCKS!)
Franz says its a person standing down in a crevasse looking up at an opening.
Any guesses from Mom and Pop, before I reveal the truth behind the picture?
Lana wins! That's the best guess ever! Ice cream sundae for Lana!
Hamburger patty...do I smell e.coli anyone?
come on! Give us the stinkin' answer. It's been like 3 weeks.
WHAT IS IT?
All right, Lana hold on to your scarf, here is the answer to the question about the hamburger patty picture.
I am standing in an abandoned railroad tunnel deep in the heart of Stumphouse Mountain, looking up at an airshaft that has been carved out in order to provide fresh air for the workers (back in 1850s). The tunnel was started in the 1850s and never finished due to the beginning of the Civil War. This was the only light in the 1300 ft dead end tunnel, quite a contrast to the pitch black darkness all around.
Ice cream sundae goes to Evan for the most accurate guess. And Lana for being so darn creative, I'll personally deliver some raw ground beef to your dwelling place in...oh...about a week!
Thanks for playing.
Great! Lana can make us some lovely hand-shaped hamburger patties.
Congrats to Evan and Lana. I knew all along, but wanted you to have the chance to win the treat!
That's not entirely true. Actually, Evan and Franz guessed about what I thought, so I didn't post my idea.
I'll play next time, Les!
