Surprise Church Mascot

As I was walking toward the sanctuary of our church after dropping off Jackson (our church campus is an outdoor campus, with individual buildings for the different ages of children), I passed this palm tree next to the baptismal pool. Everyone was stopping and pointing up into the tree, so I had to stop and join them.

See anything in the top right of the tree? A big bird body, perhaps? Let's zoom in a little to see.

There was a big owl calmly perched in the palm, watching the people scurrying around below. He was still there after church so we picked up the kids and came back so they could see him. One of the greeters was pointing him out to everyone.

How awesome! For some reason, to me owls are an incredible bird. Perhaps it's the 360 head-swivel, or their eerie eyes, or their eerie nighttime noises. And, in spite of that eerieness, I love them. Maybe it's because their babies are so fluffy. Glad the kids got to see it. How cool!
