Kid-isms

Here are a couple of strange comments said by my girls lately, none of which have any context, as they were totally out of the blue.

Katie: (to her babysitter) "I talk cute, don't I?"

Madeline: "I would marry a boy if I could just get my hands on one."

Katie: (a spontaneous prayer in the middle of dinner - eyes squeezed closed and hands clasped) "Dear God, please give Winston back. Amen."

And a cute Madeline story:

She had been saving up her coins in her purple piggy bank for quite some time. This week she became very antsy to go buy something she had her heart set on - a Littlest Pet Shop veteranarian office. We poured out her coins and sorted by type, then counted them into dollars. All in all, it was just over $16. She convinced her Dad to kick in a few bucks if needed, and we headed out to Target to see if we could find it. Once there, she said very thoughtfully to me, "Mommy, it wouldn't be very fair if just I got something and I don't have enough money to get two big things, so maybe I won't get the veteranarian office. Maybe I'll just use my money to get two little things so I can give one to Katie. That would be more fair, don't you think?" Sure enough, she found two small dogs with clothes and carrying bags (they were 2-3 inches long) and let Katie pick her favorite. At the cash register, she emptied her purse of the $16-worth of coins on the scanner. She was just under $3 short, which I gladly fronted. A lesson learned for me; not a lesson taught.

This girl...I don't even know. Madeline is so thoughtful, so other-centric for a child that it blows my mind. Would that we could all be a little more like her, a little more like Jesus.

Precious story! May I be so unselfish with what I have! I have always felt I learned more from my children than they learned from me. And now from my grandchildren, too! What a blessing!
