Mom and Dad's Visit

Mom and Dad came for a visit in mid-October. We kept ourselves busy with regular life, soccer games, a trip up to Camp Verde to see an old Western fort complex from the Indian wars era, and a plane ride, among other things.

The girls were beginning "Character Counts" week at school, which is held every October. The school has a character program that emphasizes six positive character traits. For six days, the kids are asked to dress in a different color with different accessories as they highlight one particular trait each day. Here, the girls were to wear red or yellow and wear their shirt backward.

Dad took us out to dinner and snapped this photo after the meal. Franz had already removed a full and increasingly busy (naughty) Jackson from the premises.

Franz had finally completed the last of his tests for his private pilot's license just before Mom and Dad arrived. We three were his first passengers! He took us for a short ride over our house and around Lake Pleasant. It was quiet and smooth. Good job, Franz!

Despite my hope that we were done with super-hot soccer games, we had another scorcher that Saturday. Franz got some good action shots.

Maddie is typically placed as goalie or offense. She isn't afraid to run, run, run.

We went home between games and put Jackson down for a nap. Mom and I followed with him in a second car and arrived a few minutes after Katie's game started. We just missed seeing her take a ball straight to the face as goalie for her team. It was a hard, direct hit. She hates to be "embarrassed" in front of people, so she was super tough, and came right back into the game after a short stint on the sidelines.

Supportive spectator section.

The "Little Man" loves soccer games because he is allowed to run around fairly unhindered behind the goal lines. The fields are fenced in (two within each fence) with one exit, so he would have to run very, very quickly to get out before we could get to him. He is usually pretty good about staying nearby. Especially since I am the source of snacks and drinks.
