Madeline's school teacher created an unusual project for her students; one that was right up Maddie's alley. One week the teacher took the class out to the playground to find inspiration for a four-line poem. With few options to look at there, Maddie selected a fire hydrant as the subject. And, ever her mother's daughter, she created a nine-line poem rather than four. Here is her poem (with original spelling and spacing!):
The Fire hiderent
A yellow old plane fire
hiderent sitting on a
play grond when I was
little I played with it but
now its boring and I play
with my firends but every
now and then I look at
it and I think what a
lonely fire hiderent.
The next week (this class meets once a week), the students were individually taken into a small room with a xylophone, piano, and drum. They were allowed to select an instrument, and were recorded reading their poems while accompanying themselves with their instruments of choice. Finally, the teacher attached each .wma file to an email and sent it to each child's parents. Isn't that an amazing project?!
I have tried to figure out how to upload or embed an audio file to the blog, but cannot make it work. Old dogs and new tricks and all that. Anyone with some helpful tips out there? If you want to hear Madeline's song, email me and I will forward it to you.
