Out of the blue, Katie asked me, "Mommy, how do you know when there are kids on the stairs?"
Now, I have the background information to know she is referring to when she and Madeline are supposed to be in bed (having been tucked in already) and they try to sneak downstairs. She can't believe we can always tell that they are coming before they announce their presence. However, this question was quite random at 4:38 PM while I was sitting in my office.
So, I asked her, "You mean because Daddy and I always know when you are out of bed?"
"You mean you can smell kids?" she asked incredulously.
Now, I don't know how that leap in logic happened exactly, but I just looked at her solemnly and she ran off, amazed at the talents of grownups.

I love random kid questions. that is priceless. Makes me think, though, of the scary kid-catcher from Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang.
Don't let her watch that one for a few more years, lest she think you're scary, too (for smelling kids, of course).
