Maddie's First Day of Kindergarten!

Somehow, it happened. Maddie turned into a Kindergartener.

Today was her first day. Franz's parents were here visiting and helped us make the morning special with a big breakfast and an entourage to drop her off. Who out there is shocked that she wanted to wear pink for her first day?

Franz and I and Katie all met back up with her at lunchtime and had lunch in the cafeteria. She sack-lunched it, but Franz and I bought the adult lunches - $2.75 with drink included for a salad bar that nearly rivaled Sweet Tomatoes and a baked potato bar. The adult lunch varies every day and I've been hearing rumors about how great it is. I'll have to try it again, for sure. So, we dropped her off at 9:00, had lunch with her from 11:25 to 12:15, and will pick her up again at 3:25. Not too much separation and she was a good sport about going back to the classroom after lunch, although she would rather have come home.

Ms. Crane did inform us that Maddie (as she requested to be called in K this year) has had this throat clearing tick thing going on every 20 seconds all day. Weird. Maddie didn't want to talk about it when I asked. She must be more nervous than she is letting on.

Her class has probably 6 returning students from Pre-K whom she knows, which is nice, and uses the same playground as the Pre-K, so it is familiar. I'm catching up with some of the moms I knew from last year and some new ones, too. Good times for all.

Stay posted for Katie's first day of preschool next Monday. She's big stuff, too!

So grown up! Great pictures! How hot is it on the playground these days? Can't wait for Katie's first day!

It is very hot. Maddie was so excited that it was only 86 degrees today at 8:30 on the way to school. Problem is, the humidity is way up. Don't know why they start school so early out here.

What a beautiful family picture! And I love that first pic of Maddie in the car. What a poser! It's so exciting to be starting school.

ps. I think the throat clearing thing is genetic, starting with Dad, but that's my 2 cents. Kyle says I do it, too. Maybe not every 20 seconds, but often enough to comment.

Wow! Hard to believe she is already in kindergarten! Our boys start preschool next week, too - we'll see how it goes. :)

Great family picture!
